Testosterone in Women: What’s the Problem?

You can ask your doctor to check your testosterone levels, but chances are your result will come back “normal”, even if you feel far from it.

Here’s why: in many labs (including Calgary and all over Alberta), the reference range for total testosterone in women is listed as normal if it is under 2.0 nmol/L. That means even if you have very low or even undetectable levels of testosterone in your blood, it would still be reported as “normal”.(!)

And if you’re experiencing symptoms of low testosterone, don’t be surprised if treatment isn’t offered, even though it can make a huge difference for many women.

Symptoms of low testosterone in women:
*Fatigue
*Brain Fog
*Weight Gain
*Muscle Weakness
*Loss of Bones Density
*Depression
*Sleep Disturbances
*Low Libido and Decreased Sexual Satisfaction

In my practice, I take a deeper look both at hormone levels AND how you’re feeling. For many women, optimizing testosterone can be life-changing. Testosterone might not be the only factor at play, but when it’s addressed the results can be absolutely transformative.

Have you been told everything is “normal”, but you still don’t feel your best? Don’t settle- advocate for your health!

If you’re looking for different perspectives on hormone testing and treatment, including testosterone, I’d love to help.
